Four weeks annual leave

As most employers are now aware the minimum annual leave entitlement increased to four weeks effective from 1 April 2007.

Any employee who has commenced employment since shall accrue leave at the four week rate (or 8% of their gross earnings).

The Department of Labour advises that all existing employees’ annual leave entitlement is accrued at the four week (8%) rate from the anniversary of their commencement date immediately prior to 1 April 2007. 

All employers who use a software based pay system should ensure they have a recent upgrade and will note that the default position of most programmes is to automatically update the employee’s leave so it is accrued at the 8% rate from 1 April 2007.
